I purchased this piece from an art gallery in Taos, New Mexico when I lived there in 1974.

I do not know the name of the artist, but there is a mark on the bottom, shown in the photo.

It is 7" tall and weighs 2 pounds. The surface is a bit rough, with a lightly gritty feel.
