I took these photos 1969-1970 at Mickey Hart's Novato ranch, when the Dead were learning to ride for an upcoming film for which they'd been signed to play a band of horseback-riding musicians, called "Zachariah". In the end though, they were replaced in the film by Country Joe and The Fish.

By the way, Jerry Garcia broke a couple of ribs during one of their trail ride smoke breaks, (see that last photo), when he tried to remount his horse and the saddle shifted. The horse got spooked and knocked Jerry onto a nearby boulder. He never saw a doctor or told anyone except Mountain Girl.

These are high-quality prints made by my custom lab, signed by me lower right corner, shipped in archival sleeves.

The bonus book is a 322-page memoir in which I tell my intimate stories of living, working, traveling and dancing with the Dead during their first decade as a band. The stories are illustrated with 200 of my candid black and white photos.
